I know you're looking at the title of this post in slight confusion, but don't worry! I had the same look on my face when I heard the news.
Apparently, a 65-year-old man was acquitted for sexual assault after being caught pleasuring himself on a beach in Stockholm back in June. The district court of Södertörn threw out the charge on the grounds that "he didn't look at anyone while he was pleasuring himself." According to the court, refraining from making eye contact with someone while getting off in public means the act wasn't directed towards someone and could not be ruled as sexual assult.
When Public Prosecutor Olof Vrethammar was questioned about his opinion of the verdict, he agreed with the ruling stating that "Public self pleasuring is ok as long as it isn't directed towards someone, however, it still may fall under disorderly conduct."
Talk about a free and liberated country!
