Is Sexting Cheating?

There was a time when spitting game and expressing interest in someone was done face to face in verbal contact or over a voice to voice telephone conversation. Now with the development of technology and social media networks through the world wide web, it has become amazingly simple to connect and convey interest with just the click of a button.  Facebook messages bulging with I love you's are sent back and forth, tweets with pet names are exchanged, and photos "for your eyes only" are passed between lovers using the HD cameras on smart phones.  Cheating and infidelity has rapidly increased over the last decade, and it is due, in part, to the easy access technology provides for two people to connect on "the low". Sexting has been a topic of discussion for a few years now, and it's popularity has increased as technology has advances. You may ask, wtf is sexting? Well if you are confused about what it is, let me shed some light on the definition.

Sexting-an exchange of sexual photos and conversations through text message; the new version of phone sex without verbal communication.

The Debate that has teetered back and forth about sexting is whether it is a form of cheating or simply a harmless act. Well, I'm here to shed some light on the situation and put down the facts about this issue. SEXTING IS NOT CHEATING. It is simply an expression of the fantasies that have been locked away in the subconscious of a person exchanged through sms communication. HOWEVER, this display of fantasy is a gateway that can lead to cheating.  According to Dr. Rachel Carlton Abrams, M.D in "The Multi-Orgasmic Woman", "expressing your inner thoughts in the open allows you to have more power over them than they have over you."  If you can express your fantasies out loud, you will be able to control your actions and thoughts better, but if you keep them locked away and suppressed, they have the tendency to manifest into negative actions and behaviors on the surface.

Our society has become an overindulgent race. We want more than what we already have, and often times seek out what others possess. Expressing your inner fantasies about the next person may give you control over your thoughts, but sexting back and forth puts you at a closer advantage to actually making those fantasies a reality.  It takes true will power on the part of both individuals in the exchange to keep the physical contact from actually happening.  Do I recommend sexting if you are a single individual with no attachments, but if you are in a monogamous relationship, sexting is not permitted. It will only lead to issues in the future. If you have fantasies that you would like to express, talk about them with your partner and see how you can make those fantasies become reality.
